When DMV offices close, the consequences are dramatic, and adding private DMV offices to the mix is discriminatory and financially draining for many.

The State of Alaska has a fee structure for obtaining these requirements. Even if the department closes the DMV office and gives a private DMV company the right to process your required paperwork, you will still have to pay the full fee to the state. Private companies are allowed to charge their own unregulated "convenience fees". A "convenience fee" of at least $25 (and in some cases $100 or more) per transaction plus a 3% credit card fee. This is often in the hundreds of dollars. Fees are per transaction, not per visit.

Closing state-run DMV offices is direct discrimination against seniors, Alaskans with disabilities, and income.

In 2015, the state of Alabama tried to close the same DMV, sued the federal Department of Transportation for discrimination and was forced to halt the closure.
"The Driver's License Office provides essential services to the people of the United States, including providing methods of identification to thousands of people in Alabama." said former Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx. "It is important that these services be provided without discrimination and serve New Yorkers fairly and equitably."
Similarly, the Texas Legislature forced its own Department of Motor Vehicles to lift the closure, citing the move as discriminatory.
Closing these proposed Alaska DMV offices is not only discriminatory, but immoral in its treatment of the elderly, disabled, and all Alaskans.

Not the old man in Alaska. Alaska is not a state. I am not a disabled Alaskan. It's not low-income Alaska. Not rural Alaskans Not native Alaskans. We are not laying off DMV employees or their families. It is not a community service. Not a bank account in Alaska. Not in any Alaska.
Administration to "spend" DMV revenue to increase administrative bureaucracy. A "private partner in administration" that collects unregulated private special fees or mandatory vig from Alaskans who have no choice. The Department of Management, which added unnecessary non-union administrative staff through DMV's "cost-shifting," terminated the commissioner's budgeted employee salaries.
Alaskan seniors, people with disabilities, low-income families, rural residents and Alaska Natives can prevent this by demanding that DMV offices remain open.
Unconfirmed, this is just the beginning of the end for Alaska as we know it. The elderly, disabled, rural, low-income, and Alaska Natives will become unwilling victims of unelected bureaucrats.
